Biography
For nearly a decade now, Memphis native musician and producer Derek Olds has consistently been at the forefront of a new evolution in Modern Rock and popular music alike. His expertise in production joined with his eclectic writing and performance styles give him a level of sophistication and energy that can only be described as “epic.” Fusing classic rock sensibilities with everything from electronic dub rhythm to R&B and classical soundscapes, Derek's music is for people who can answer "everything!" to the question "What kind of music do you like?".
Derek started writing songs at an early age and began performing and producing in 1999. He has since maintained an intense schedule on the road and in the studio, including hundreds of gigs as an independent artist in venues around the world. Within the last year, he has had the opportunity to perform and produce throughout the US, along with in countries such as Brazil, France, and Amsterdam. Ending each set with an ever-growing fan base, Derek consistently breaks the barrier between artist and listener with sound that is raw and undeniably honest.
Since working as an engineer at Jambox Recording Studios (NYC) in 2002, Derek has quickly developed into an accomplished Producer/Engineer. His projects involve top artists and producers such as John Legend, Maroon 5, James McKinney, and Carlos Alvarez. Last year, his talents as a songwriter led the Grammy Association’s D.C. Chapter to invite him to lead a writing workshop for the Duke Ellington School Of The Arts in Georgetown. In recent years, Derek’s creative accomplishments have grown to include a diverse catalogue of television and movie soundtrack productions. With over 30 compositions under his belt, he has developed an ambient collection that can fit any emotion or situation.
Derek is currently living in Miami, FL where his is tracking for his his first solo release "Just Another King" with engineer Carlos Alvarez, due to be released in Fall 2008.
